Making eWallpaper

As we all know, all students in Digital Media 1 must do their eWallpaper as for the first assignment. The task required us to do the wallpaper or some sort of like poster that advertise the faculty of Management in Multimedia University for the new students. Here by, I post the steps on making the eWallpaper by using the Adobe Photoshop CS3.

For my first step, I've done several sketches on the paper to make it easier for me to plan and organized my work when using the Adobe CS3..

This is the doddle that I've done before I decided to start on the adobe :).

In making the poster, I've chosen several way to take the picture that I want that is by capture it on by myself and get it from the net. The image that I took is the image that picture the Faculty of Management (FOM), which is the FOM building, FOM classroom and FOM entrance sign. As you can see above is, I drag the three image that I have into the adobe and turn it into grayscale by click on the link above image-mo de-grayscale. The reason why I change it into grayscale is because I wanted to make the picture look black and white. Before I move the picture to the background layer, I change the resolution of the image by using short key ctrl+alt+i and turn in to 300 as to make sure the picture still in good condition eventhough I resize the image according to size of what I want.

Next, as you can see the image above is the image of the modern building where I get it from the Google searh. The reason why I choose the picture is to show people that MMU is the future for every students and about to be as a lead to other University :). In this step, I put some effects which is filter-sharpen and the image turn to be a bit darker but still can see the true image. The image then I drag and join with the image earlier in the background layer.

Further more, the image that I show is about 20% done that you can see I've joined the image of the FOM and the building together. In this process, I've changed the background color to black and make the image to be more clearly when we see it. The tools that appear in the image is the tools for me to write something on the layer which is horizontal-type tool or you just can press T. I type the Multimedia University Cyberjaya by using the sylfaen font and turn it into blue color as the main color of MMU. In this step, I repeat it several times when I'm about to write something.

Now, I'm about to edit the MMU logo and what I'm trying to do is, clear all the white color at the back of the logo. This process need to be done by using the eraser tools and to make it more easier, I pick the magic eraser tool. The advantage of this eraser tool is, it can erase anything when you click on it but just for the same color or tone. For example, in this image, all I have to do is just click on the white color, and it disappear.

This step tells you what I've done before which is change the resolution of the image (ctrl+alt+i). This time I use it to change the resolution of MMU logo that I've just erase the white color at the back of the logo. After I drag the logo image to the main layer, I found that its to big and I need to resize the image. By using ctrl+T we can adjust the size of the image. It is more easy when u click Shift while adjusting the image. This is to make sure the image is still on its size (",). For your information, while using the layer, it is confusing if we didn't rename the layer. So, better rename it as to make our work easier :).

Next, after I've done with the MMU logo, I proceed to the MMU Mascot which is Bee. I got the bee image is from the net and nothing much that I have to do about this image. Thus, I just put some effect and this time I use filter-stylize-growing edges. When using this kind of filter, the image turn to be more shining and more to iron looking solid for the iron. Then, I move the MMU Mascot layer under the background layer and lastly, to make it more fiction, I use the layers X at the right of the adobe and use soft light. By drag it and put at the top on the left, both logo and Mascot is done.

This two images above shows you while I'm editing an image of people. This process need me to use eraser tool and magic wand tool. The eraser tool that I use is eraser tool which is use when trying to erase something that is tiny and difficult. It should be done slowly and to make it easy, you can click ctrl + to zoom the picture or ctrl+- to unzoom. For the magic wand, this tool is use when I need to use the same image for the second time. Click on the image and it will highlights the necessary and all I have to do is just copy and paste it (ctrl+c and ctrl+v). In this situation, the image of that people is need to be rotate to make the image same even it is on right or left. So, I use edit-transform-flip horizontal and the image will turn on the other side.

Finally, all the works that I've been working on is done. As you click on every picture, you can see that I rename all the layer to make sure I will not confuse while making the poster. So, the poster is done and its Open Day for Faculty of Management (FOM) on March 21st 2009. New comers are welcome! :)
